The Official Note from the Executive Director of HOD
Let me take this opportunity to introduce you to the Himilo Organization for Development (HOD). To begin, I’d like to express my gratitude to all of our members, partners, funders, and employees for their unyielding dedication to not only our organization’s success but to the magnificent impact, we’ve had on our intended beneficiaries. Our sense of shame motivates us to keep working harder than ever.
HOD offered a practical venue for constructive participation and action in 2021 on a wide range of issues affecting Somalia’s access to humanitarian and development assistance. The technical expertise of HOD, the members’ willingness to pitch in and work together, and our unwavering commitment to our core values have all contributed to our progress toward our vision of a peaceful and prosperous society in which everyone has the same opportunities to thrive. This success, however, has not come easily. Employees and donors in Somalia had to be flexible in the face of a constantly shifting environment, including the COVID-19 pandemic, in order to continue providing aid to the Somali people. HOD has been able to improve its understanding and analysis of the surrounding context thanks to our ongoing collaboration with external stakeholders such as donors and UN agencies like FAO, WFP, SHF, NED, and ICRI.
As 2020 comes to a close, we are aware that there is more work to be done to strengthen resilience and advance development efforts. We worry about the future and the humanitarian needs of our people. To that end, we call on all relevant parties to work toward improving people’s lives in Somalia by 2020 and beyond. The Head of the Department, citizens, donors, international groups, and government officials all need to buy into this plan for it to succeed. We plan to make greater strides in the coming years toward this goal. By prioritizing long-term prosperity, we contribute to sustainable development today.
